We’re running late – again!

Hello Hello!

I was having a chat with a friend the other day and we got onto the topic of school runs – you know the story, three kids and yourself to get ready and out of the door and no matter how early you get up you feel like you are always trying to beat the clock; well we got onto discussing make up routines.

I used to always go one way or the other, either full coverage, what I would wear on say, a weekend, or absolutely nothing. But I started feeling like I looked terrible when I wore nothing, but often didn’t have time to do a full face – I needed to find a compromise and so this is what I’m using at the moment as a mum-on-the-go, my go-to essentials for days when I don’t have time but don’t want to look like the walking dead either!

My skincare routine really isn’t up to scratch at all, I just quickly wipe round with a 3-in-1 facial wipe (usually whichever is on offer or at the supermarket I’m shopping in) and I don’t moisturise – I know, I know smack my hands!

I’ve started going for a BB cream as it’s getting into Spring and decided to go for the Garnier one – yes it’s anti-age, this was a complete accident although maybe the universe is trying to tell me something!!!

I sometimes apply a concealer but usually don’t bother (who has time for another product!) I add some blusher, currently I use L’oreal Le Blush and its shade is Rose Sandalwood,

I don’t bother with eyeshadow all the time, and at the moment when I’m running late I really don’t have time, so I just go straight to mascara and I’ve been using the same brand for about 10 years. I am using the Maybelline Great Lash in ‘Blackest Black’

I have been finding my lips are getting dry and so have started popping on some balm, I have never really worn gloss or lipstck so this is great for just popping on in a rush as there isn’t much of a colour so if you get it everywhere it’s not that bad – haha! I got this one for Christmas off my parents, it’s M&S Blackberry balm and it smells amazing!

This is it for my make up but just to add I also use Palmer’s hand cream (on orders of my mum!) as my hands are soooo dry all the time, and if I remember I’ll have a spritz of perfume, which at the moment is one I got for Christmas as well – Nina (the pink apple).

And this is the finished look – excuse the flat hair and awful eyebrows!

It’s simple and subtle, but it makes me feel a bit more human. Let me know if there are any hacks you rely on or products you recommend – especially for eyebrows!

Hanging out at Half Term

This week has been the October Half Term holiday and we didn’t have a lot planned but it seems we did lots of baking – I think we’ve had a really nice week.

Here’s a quick rundown of what we got up to…

Rabbit spent the whole weekend dressed as a witch after we put this outfit together, and it only cost me £3!

Mum and dad gave her the dress which they picked up from a charity shop – cost to me £0 😀

We had the hat from last year – cost this year £0 😀

The tights were a bargain from Aldi, they came in a two pack with a plain purple pair as well for £1.99, she wore holes in the feet within 2 days but she hates wearing shoes – they’ll be easy to sew up. (I actually could have got away without paying for these too as I later found some from last year under the stairs – doh!

The broom was really cool and looked pretty authentic – this was just £1 from Wilko – love it!

First off this week we had loads of cornflakes to use up so what better way than chocolate cornflake cakes! We used Swiss chocolate (only because it was on offer!), and I decided to add some marshmallow Fluff, but this in hindsight may have been a mistake as it made it go a bit claggy. They were yummy though and I love the Halloween themed cases we got from Asda- they were orange with bats all over.

We went to see Finding Dory this week – I love using the cheap junior showings it’s worth waiting a few months rather than spending a fortune, all 4 of us got in for £7.20!

We made some Halloween butter cookies – which seem to becoming an annual tradition, the recipe is so simple, just butter, flour, icing sugar and 2 minutes in the mixer. The cutters we used were a Wilton set I think and we did a gingerbread man to use as a skeleton. We used the Tate&Lyle Royal Icing in a box to ice them and my Wilton colour right set – this year however I think I made it too runny – as you can see with the skeleton’s face he melted off the cookie – oops! But it was fun to do with the kids and we had a laugh 🙂

We had a surprise visit from the tooth fairy (so Roo is now rather gummy) – at least I actually remembered to pay up this time!

I ended the week with an unexpected mummy daughter day as Roo went off to a football day school with a friend. So I took Rabbit to the park in the morning and then in the afternoon we did our favourite thing and baked some more, she loves it especially when she wears her chefs hat- so cute! The cakes were so moist (yummy!) not sure if that’s because all I had was Olive spread when I needed margarine? And we tried a recipe for chocolate buttercream it was amazing so we will definitely use it again – you can find it here!

So it’s fair to say we’ve had a good share of yummy treats to eat up this holiday! I think a week is just a nice amount of time to pack with activities without running out of money or getting bored, any longer and I always struggle to keep them occupied.

Certainly making the most of these more relaxed holidays though before our lives get very baby-busy again next year!

First day of Spring!

This is definitely a happy time of year for me…

  • I love the brighter mornings and evenings (who wants to get up for work in the dark?!),
  • The smell of freshly cut grass – that smell is just the best!
  • Actually being able to wash my car without the risk of catching Pneumonia
  • Being able to feel the sun on my face without the need of a coat (OK I know that’s rare in the UK for March – so when it happens it’s magic)
  • Hearing the birds chirping on the walk to pick my son up from school – it really is the little things
  • And finally…being able to let my two little monkeys out of the cage – I do mean the kids by the way (hehe). They love being outside whenever possible but it is really hard for me to let them out in the winter – i’m slightly OCD about muddy clothes!

So you can imagine with the temperature finally in the teens the first place they landed when they go home from school was the back garden! However, we don’t have much of a garden at the moment – it’s on the never ending to-do list – so I had a light bulb moment! Why not get the chalk out and let them run-a-muck all over the slabs? They absolutely loved it. It was like handing them a giant piece of paper, but the best thing is when the rain comes they can do it all again.

I am a big fan of cheap and free little activities for kids to do. They really don’t need loads of money spent on them all the time, and it means when we do take them out on expensive trips out they actually appreciate it 🙂
